A Little Update

A Little Update

A small layer of dust has gathered on this blog over the past couple of weeks mainly down to me neglecting it a little. I thought rather than just carrying on and publishing a post about something, I would just update you about what I have been doing, like you would do if you had not spoken to somebody for a while. Behind every blog is a person and I wanted to write an update in a post, completely unprepared, with me probably just babbling on about life.

1. When your blogging it takes you into an online social world, a community (a lovely one may I just add) that is truly inspiring and amazing to read. There are so many blogs I love to read, to me it does not matter if somebody has thousands of followers or a couple, I just enjoy reading other peoples thoughts about different things that inspire them and they feel passionate to blog about. But the reality is that in my "real" world, nobody around me has a blog, so whilst I take every opportunity I can to blog and to read other blogs, the reality is that I still have to carry on with life away from this online community (as you do). I really hope that somebody else understands what I mean by this when you love to blog, but people in your every day life just do not really understand it. I find it difficult to explain to people who do not understand blogs about what I do on mine and why am I taking a picture of something that to them is just a make up product, and then you might get a question from someone asking you "Why Do You Blog?".

That question from somebody with no involvement in blogs is the most difficult one to explain, it is like I freeze and think how on earth am I going to explain this to you. I enjoy it, to me blogging is a hobby, like it would be for someone going to football one evening or having dance lessons, or even just sitting down reading a book or enjoying knitting. My hobby, but one I instantly feel awkward about because nobody in my every day life, (the one I have to face with my actual face) really gets it or understands it. So over the past fortnight I have been really busy with friends, family, work and I suddenly found myself in a position where I just did not have the opportunity to blog. I would feel awkward about saying no to an invitation out because I wanted to stay in and blog, and I did not want to offend anybody by saying "no sorry I really need to spend an evening on my laptop and post about this new lipstick". It is like this world that when you are in it, it makes perfect sense, but to those who have no clue what it is all about, well you just do not know what the hell they must be thinking. I really am not sure if any of you feel the same way, or even if you are in a situation where everyone around you fully understands what blogging is, but my main point is that life, real life can get hectic and busy so I found myself with no time to blog. Talking to people about it on here or twitter chats, I know that you all understand it, of course we are all learning about hints and tips of blogging at different levels, but we get what each other is doing. In my real world, nobody gets it, so having a conversation with friends about blogging, like you would do about a guy you fancy or your favourite TV show, is difficult and sometimes frustrating.

2.  Maybe my other reason is writers block, well something along those lines, I have loads of ideas, but it is finding the time to work on a post properly and to the level I want. To me I do not want to feel half hearted posting about something, I want to have fully felt like I made the best effort I could. I am sure a lot of you natural light lovers feel the same way nowadays about the lack of sunlight we have now in winter (I am not going to complain too much because I love winter) but it just means that I have to use my time wisely when taking pictures and it is usually only weekends when I have the time to get stuff done. But clearly from my last point I have had a lot of stuff going on. I guess it is just me needing to adapt, be creative and use my time management skills correctly.

3. This lack of blogging, means lack of reading blogs. Honestly I used to read blogs every day, but because of my blogging malfunction it meant I stopped reading, which really is the worst thing to do. Mainly because when you read blogs, you feel inspired, it kind of uplifts you a little and gives you that kick up the bum that you need to get out of this rut. I know that I have missed out on so many new posts that have been published and I have a lot of catching up to do. It is the same with YouTube videos too, I have so many to catch up on that my subscription list is packed.

4. I think that updates you on my blog, now for my little updates. I am certainly feeling the cold now, my feet and hands are usually the worst off. So fleecy tights and gloves are my daily essentials. Hot Water Bottles have now become my sleeping partner as I have one every night in bed because I am shivering like a fool. Then like the Christmas lover I am, it is slowly counting down to December, thankfully I am well prepared for it. It was this weekend that I could see the crowds of people everywhere and the fact I have to walk 2 miles per hour because of how slow everybody moves around the shops (sorry if you are one of them, but I like space). Then of course the lovely John Lewis advert came on to our screens and had me welling up but then immediate shock when I saw the price of a cuddly toy penguin they were selling. Soon after all of the supermarket Christmas adverts started and perhaps a small part of me is sick of them already. Peter Andre lovers I am sorry but the Iceland Advert is driving me insane.

5. Risotto is pretty much the only food I eat (slight exaggeration), I bloody love risotto, it is my favourite food and I have been cooking it most of the week. It tests my patience whilst making it, but a bowlful of risotto is heavenly and I never get sick of eating it and trying new recipes for it. Soup has also been my favourite food to eat/drink, it is so warming and makes you feel cosy and full. Yes I am a sucker for Carrot and Coriander but I am very slowly trying to branch out and make others. The new series of Masterchef is also something I have been a keen watcher of, I always find it incredible to see what some chefs can make in an hour.

6. Having baths with a product from Lush is a daily occurrence now, I mean I can spend a good hour in the bath with a Lush product, sometimes longer. Bath bombs are my favourite, especially the one out now called So White, it smells so nice and fresh plus leaves my skin so soft and nourished. So I know what is on my Christmas list for stocking fillers, a stocking filled with Lush products would be a dream.

7. I went back to my old roots of 4oD (Channel 4 on demand) and have been watching old episodes of Skins, I used to absolutely love that show when I was a teenager. I actually had not watched the last season mainly because I guess I thought I had grown out of it, so I am currently watching that but they do not really live up to the originals with characters like Tony, Michelle, Cassie and Sid. They actually have a load of great TV shows on 4oD which I had completely forgotten about.

I think that is everything to update you with for now, it was mainly for me to have a bit of a rant in the hope that I am not the only one who feels like this towards blogging every so often. I feel more motivated now and ready to get back into it, I think even if nobody was to ever read my blog, it acts like a bit of a diary to myself anyway. I think it is a great online diary that I can always look back on, so I am only going to be annoyed at myself if there are massive chunks of time where I have not been blogging. Besides I think having some time away is always good, because it gives you a bit of a refresh and allows you to get more ideas of what you might want to do next.

As far as the whole thing about people in my daily life not understanding blogging, I would really love to hear your thoughts on this, and if people you know understand what your doing or don't? I would be really interested to know, so do leave a comment!

Hope you had a lovely Tuesday!

  1. I definitely know what you mean by people in the real world not 'getting it' none of my friends blog either and I also feel pretty awkward mentioning that I write a blog, because to them it probably seems kind of weird and crazy! I never really talk about my blog to people in 'real life' I feel like there are so many other lovely bloggers online that I can share my love for blogging with so I just talk about 'normal' things with my real life friends! x

  2. i feel like i'm the only one that doesn't care what people think when i say i blog. i'm not shy to tell people too. hmm but i understand where you're coming from and apology accepted on your lack of blogging/reading post hehe oh btw i'm running this amazing giveaway on my blog come along and check it out

  3. You said it perfectly, blogging is just one of the things that not everyone understands so people away from all of it, even social media, find it really difficult to explain what I do. It does not bother me at all, everyone has their own interests, it is just it is less easy to have a proper conversation about, like it would be with somebody within the community. I am glad I am not the only one who has this, I think my problem is that people in my "real life" just do not get how much work I need to put into my blog. Thank you for your comment lovely :) Elle x

  4. That's fantastic, I love that attitude towards it all! I love talking about my blog to people, it is just frustrating when people do not understand how it all works and how much work you need (and want) to put into it all. Haha I am so looking forward to catching up on your blog :D Elle x

Thank you so much for reading! I read every comment and will reply back to you as soon as I can xx
